WE STOPPED BY THE COLUMBIA HEIGHTS FARMER'S MARKET ON WEDNESDAY (for the first time!) and really, really dug it. So much of that feeling of neighborhood gets lost on that particular stretch of 14th Street, but during market hours, at least, the big box stores, commuter-centricity, and concrete-slabbiness are all kind of x-ed out and the focus is, instead, on community, on coming together, and on celebrating local food and local food access. As is true throughout the city's wide network of Farmer's Markets and food equity programs, volunteers are welcomed with open arms (contact for more 411) and for more ways to get involved, keep an eye on the Market's SM feeds (Insta, Twitter, FB) for coming-soon announcements, re: crowdfunding and support.
KENCENHANGTEN. Finding a Line opens tonight at the Kennedy Center, and we've been loving all the preview imagery of the skate park – built over the last year at George Mason University and now installed in front of the institution – that's hit the #aCreativeDC feed. Check the schedule for a ton of events and shows surrounding the weeklong skateboarding + music festival.
BLACK GIRL IN OM. We love, love, love the premise of the Black Girl In Om project. Beautiful vibes (bodies + wellness matter!) with an important, important focus (women of color matter, and self-care is essential and important for e v e r y o n e ). We're proud to media-partner with the ladies of #BGIO for next week's #BGIOHappyHour at JRINK. Sponsored by Blavity and ft. the incredible Alex Elle, tickets are heading towards sold out – J U M P O N I T !
FYI: You might have noticed that we changed the title of this every-Friday-round-up post from THIS WEEK/NEXT WEEK to, well, SEE ABOVE. Why? Because we are MASSIVELY on Twitter, and feel that's the best platform for us to promote DC events-at-large, and we've got a better chance, there, to approach that elusive-to-DC situation we'll refer to as BEING COMPREHENSIVE. We're re-tweeting the best to-do's, links, and 411 that relevant to Y O U R creative DC lifestyle, and we would love for you to consider following us there for the need-to-know of what makes life good here.
