THIS WEEK/NEXT WEEK is a short + sweet, all-quadrants look at what went down and what's coming up in the city (and general links of interest to the creative communities at large), pulled from what Y-O-U are tagging to the #aCreativeDC feed + beyond.
DESIGN. Maketto 1351 officially opens tonight and the space is INCREDIBLE (evidence from the #aCreativeDC feed abounds: 1, 2, and 3), and above, illustrator + surface designer Kate Zaremba posted this week in search of a Summer intern. Details here.
MUSIC. Gully Waters performed yesterday as part of the Smithsonian American Art Museum's Luce Unplugged Series; Baby Bry Bry did the same a few weeks ago and Pleasure Curses + Young Rapids are coming up in May. Keeping an eye on that schedule from here on out.
THE INTERNET. I'm honored to be presenting an award at this year's third annual DC Web Fest. Coming up in May at Chinatown's Goethe-Institut, the event is helmed by 20/20 Productions, and celebrates the digital media community (think web series, gaming, and app development). Tickets are available here/that link contains a discount code/hope to see you there!
EAST OF THE RIVER. I've been slowly making my way through Kojo in Anacostia, and while we're on the topic: are you signed up for East City Art's newsletter? Lots of event info, etc, covering the NE and SE neighborhoods.
SPRAY PAINT. This sounds rad, via @misschelove: "I'll be painting this Sat on U st DC with some of DC's OG graffiti legends and bright young stars for a two-day traditional burner style paint jam running the entire length of a long, deep alley in the heart of the city." Flyer here.
ALL OVER IT: The people have spoken: Washington City Paper's BEST OF DC is out this week.
