Company E is a DC-based contemporary dance company building engagement through cultural diplomacy missions. Composed of nine dancers and led by Artistic Director Paul Gordon Emerson, Company E often present work in partnership with the Department of State, and serve as Cultural Ambassadors across the world, forging relationships with artists and organizations in countries as diverse as Kazakhstan, Italy, Belarus, and Uruguay.
We're thrilled to share a short film by Francisco Campos-Lopez – Company E's Filmmaker in Residence – from the Company's recent diplomatic trip to Cuba. Planned for the last 3 years, the mission to perform and teach as part of the Havana Vieja en Moviento Street Dance Festival this April was approved and set in motion on December 17, 2014, when sanctions between the two countries were eased. It was an historic trip for the relationship between Cuba and the U.S., and one encouraged by both governments. While there, Company E also performed at Fabrica de Arte Cubano, sharing a stage with Questlove.
The video + BTS imagery of Company E's diplomacy mission are incredibly beautiful, and we're so proud to feature them. Moving, no?
