We are THRILLED to announce the official site launch for aCreativeDC.com. What started just over four months ago as an Instagram account and a once-per-week series on my blog, Panda Head, has grown exponentially, and we felt it was time to give the project its own real estate. WELCOME TO IT.
We're still in the process of moving all our blog content over (any interviews, etc that you might want to access before the end of the week are still live, and can be reached by way of the A Creative DC tag on Panda Head Blog), but there's still A LOT of NEW-NEW to take in:
The FEATURED homepage is a weekly-rotating gallery of artwork and imagery, from the #aCreativeDC feed and beyond. It's helmed by commissioned artwork from local artists we love – commissions will swap out seasonally, and we're thrilled to kick things off with the work of Merima Repesa. Check back often, and as you make your way through the rest of the site, you'll also notice artwork within lettering, logos, and as background/textures. These are details from the work of painter Franklin Thompson, AKA APT 50.
You can read our Mission and meet the A Creative DC team by way of the ABOUT page, and this BLOG will update three days per week. There are a million and one stories to tell about the creative communities in this city, and the online portion of this project is content-driven. Our offline, IN REAL LIFE component is coming soon.
There are three ways you can take part in the project. One – send us SUBMISSIONS. We're YOUR platform. Two - SHARE YOUR CITY. This project is built on acknowledging what makes life good here, and we would love your perspective. Every few weeks will see a new set of questions, and your answers will help tailor content for the month ahead. And three (and wow, three) - this project was founded with the intention of showing as many different sides to the DC creative communities and its supporters as it possibly could. The #aCreativeDC feed is all yours, and I'm humbled and grateful and glued to the story – over 22,000 chapters long – that the feed is telling.
Lastly, our NEWSLETTER (e)mails out a couple of times a month, and features themed image round-ups and 411 pertinent to the project and to the creative DC communities at large. Sign up to subscribe, oh please!
There aren't enough thank you's to go around for the support and interest that this project has garnered over the last few months. We're infinitely proud to help give voice and visuals to this city's creative communities, and to everything that makes life good here. We're grateful for the diversity and complexity of the communities themselves, of the small businesses and side projects and full-time hustles. We're deeply respectful of any time you spend on the site and on the feed, and we're looking forward to giving you more content, more ways to add your perspective, and more, more, more of the DC that you know and love and appreciate.
Your life looks good here. #aCreativeDC
