Malissa Wilkins is AfroVelvet, and our current artist-in-residence at A Creative DC: Brookland. Her collaborative C A T A L Y S T photo exhibition opened Sunday, April 16; both the work and the opening reception were celebrations of Black female entrepreneurship, and the reception featured presentations by Malissa and each of the photographs' subjects, a performance by Baltimore's Bobbi Rush, and vegan treats by Unfazed Beauty.
C A T A L Y S T features work by Malissa Wilkins, photographers Lloyd Foster and Roderick Johns, and creative curator Kelcey Abney. Huge thanks to Framebridge for their support of the show, to DC artists Michael and Carol Platt for printing the work, and to Social Print Studio for providing gifts for the artists + entrepreneurs involved in the exhibition. Prints are available now on the AfroVelvet site.
